Graduate Research Assistant Positions

Prof. Shen holds appointments in the UF Scripps Biomedical Research departments of Chemistry and Molecular Medicine, and leads the Natural Products Discovery Center at UF Scripps.  Research in the Shen Lab centers on natural product isolation, structural elucidation, genome mining, biosynthesis, engineering, and enabling techonology for biosynthetic gene cluster activation in native and heterologous hosts as well as drug discovery.  Members of the Shen Lab gain broad training spanning natural products chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, bioinformatics, microbiology, and molecular biology, a qualification that is becoming essential for the modern bioorganic chemists/chemical biologists who seek career opportunity in both academia and pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.  Perspective graduate students with undergraduate degrees in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, and molecular biology are all encouraged to apply to the Skaggs Graduate School of Chemical and Biological Sciences graduate program at Scripps Research.  Through curricular and laboratory research experiences, the program provides the multidisciplinary, creative and dynamic environment necessary to enable our graduate students to thrive in the rapidly evolving endeavor that is top-level scientific research.

Postdoctoral Research Associate Positions

Research in the Shen Lab is currently supported by NIH grants, institutional support, and industrial sponsorships.  The Shen Lab welcomes inquiry for postdoctoral research associate positions.  Candidates with prior experience in natural product isolation, structural elucidation, bioinformatics,  biochemistry and mechanistic enzymology, and microbiology, molecular biology, and genetics (in particular with emphasis on secondary metabolism in Streptomyces) are all encouraged to apply.  These positions are typically for 2 years and renewable up to 5 years upon mutual agreement.  Committed to excellence in the training and development of tomorrow’s scientific leaders, UF Scripps Biomedical Research offers outstanding postdoctoral job opportunities for talented individuals to expand scientific frontiers and improve human health.
