Postdoctoral Research Associate Positions
The Shen Lab welcomes inquiry for postdoctoral research associate positions. We are looking for aspiring candidates with experience in (i) genome mining and development of enabling technologies for natural product (NP) biosynthetic gene cluster (BGC) activation in native producers or expression in heterologous hosts, (ii) NP discovery through metabologenomics-assisted HTS, and NP production, isolation, structural elucidation, and biological evaluation as anti-bacterial and anti-cancer drug leads, and (iii) synthetic and medicinal chemistry and biocatalysis for the preparation and evaluation of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) as the next generation anticancer therapies by site-specific-conjugation of NPs-based payloads, such as the enediyne NPs, to the dual-variable domain IgG1 antibodies (DVD IgG1s).
Candidates with prior experience in natural product isolation, structural elucidation, and biosynthesis, biochemistry and mechanistic enzymology, and microbiology and genetics, with emphasis on NPs from Actinobacteria in particular, are strongly encouraged to apply. These positions are typically for 2 years and renewable up to 5 years upon mutual agreement. The Shen Lab is committed to the training and mentoring of tomorrow’s scientific leaders, in particularly by leveraging the Actinobacteria Strain Collection and Genome Database at NPDC to launch their independent career.
